1998

Previous winners Pulp opened the show with 'Party Hard' from their acclaimed album 'This Is Hardcore'. Also putting in great performances were Asian Dub Foundation and overall winners, Gomez. Cerys from Catatonia, who were honoured for 'International Velvet', gave an impassioned speech, and another great vocalist in attendance was Liz Frazier from the Cocteau Twins, who featured on Massive Attack's magnificent 'Mezzanine' album. The performance of the night arguably belonged to a British jazz legend, the saxophonist John Surman, who wowed everybody with a beautiful performance from his shortlisted album 'Proverbs and Songs'.
