2002

A strong year for urban music, was highlighted by the presence on the shortlist of markedly different albums from eventual winner, Ms. Dynamite, Beverley Knight, The Streets and Roots Manuva. Putting a smile on everyone's faces were inventive new releases from the Isle of Wight's finest, the Bees, for their appropriately named album 'Sunshine Hit Me' and the Liverpool six-piece, The Coral, who were shortlisted for their eponymous debut, produced by The Lightning Seeds' Ian Broudie. At the show the audience were treated to a display of virtuoso playing from the world-renowned pianist Joanna MacGregor.
