The album which signals Pulp's emergence into the firmament of modern British pop, Different Class went to number one in the chart the week after release in October 1995. It has since sold over a million copies in the UK alone, remaining in the chart for 38 consecutive weeks. Pulp's previous album, His 'n' Hers was shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize in 1994.
