2000

The first Prize of the new decade saw the return of the singer-songwriter. Badly Drawn Boy, aka Damon Gough, won the Prize for his wonderful and highly distinctive debut collection, 'The Hour of the Bewilderbeast'. Damon was on hand to perform live and deliver a characteristically memorable acceptance speech. Also in attendance and performing live were his mates from the North-West, Doves, and an emergent young band by the name of Coldplay. Meanwhile, much attention was given to songwriter Kathryn Williams, who was honoured for her highly personal collection, 'Little Black Numbers', released on her own Newcastle based label, Caw Records.
